Within3 is now the world leader in life science insights management, but the company has come a long way since it was founded in 2007. Within3 CEO Lance Hill was there at the beginning, when the company consisted of a peer-to-peer engagement platform for HCPs, and oversaw its transition to an integrated platform designed to solve the life science insight gap. Today, Within3 can name every one of the world’s top 20 pharmaceutical companies among its client roster, alongside many of the world’s leading medical device companies. Now, as part of Authority Magazine’s ‘how to take your company from good to great’ series, Ben Ari interviews Lance on the early days of Within3, the culture required to take a company to the very top, and the challenges he’s faced along the way.
“The insight gap wastes companies’ time and money and prevents HCPs from delivering lifesaving care,” Lance explains. “We’re always thinking about our customers, so we set out to solve this problem.”
“At the time, we didn’t know how all of the pieces that make up our platform today – asynchronous virtual engagement, network analytics, natural language processing – would fit together to create an insight management solution. But we knew there had to be a better way to communicate with key stakeholders, and by holding tight to that belief, we created not only a new service, but burst open a whole new category.”
Lance goes on to call out some of the individuals who influenced his career and helped him out during the early days of Within3, and provides a list of the five most important things you need to know to transform a company from good to great, including: “maintain a positive work environment.”
“As a leader, it is important to cultivate a sense of excitement and curiosity among team members,” Lance explains. “Individuals that are excited to collaborate and seek new solutions tend to be most successful.”
